ADVANCED SWEAT TESTING

Knowing the sodium content of your sweat is vital to performance - but many athletes have no idea what theirs is

Sodium is the main electrolyte we lose through sweat, and this needs to be replaced to maintain performance, stay hydrated and avoid cramp, particularly over long distances and in hot conditions

Sodium loss levels in sweat can vary from 200mg/L to 2000mg/L from person to person. Meaning a "one-size-fits-all" approach to rehydration and sodium replenishment just doesn't make sense

An Advanced Sweat Test is able to determine the amount of sodium you lose in your sweat, which then allows us to formulate a rehydration plan that keeps you performing at your best

Thankfully, the sodium we lose in our sweat stays constant over our lifetime, so you only ever need to be tested once

WHAT DOES THE TEST INVOLVE?

The testing process is done at rest (yes, no sweating it out on the treadmill), is non-invasive and pain free.

There are 3 steps to the testing process

Sweat Inducement .jpeg

A gentle current is passed through a specialized gel disc that is strapped on your arm

This stimulates the sweat glands on a small patch of your forearm to sweat

SWEAT COLLECTION

We then use a small device called a microduct to collect a sweat sample

The design of this device ensures there is no contamination of the sample

SWEAT ANALYSIS

The sample is then passed through the Precision Hydration analyser which gives a reading of the sodium content of your sweat on the spot

No waiting

HOW WE USE YOUR TEST RESULTS

At present, sweat tests can only be done by home visit. (We will have a physical location in the near future)

Determine the sodium concentration of your sweat through an advanced sweat test

Work out your sweat rate in differing conditions

Combining this data we know what you must replace with your hydration plan

The results of the advanced sweat test are then combined with the answers of your pre test questionnaire and your personalised hydration plan is produced, explained and discussed on the spot.

This plan is sent to you in an extremely easy to read format via email, where you always have access to it, there is no need to ever have this test done a second time.

Your plan will give you information on how to best hydrate on race day and during training, including what Precision Hydration products suit your needs.

Very helpfully, your plan gives you links to Precision Hydration's extensive information library on all things hydration, fuelling and performance. It also has a link to retake your pre-test questionnaire if your training and competition structure ever changes.

When you leave your test (or before), you will need to work out your sweat rate for different events/sports, under differing conditions, how to do this is explained here.

SQUAD TESTING

Do you have a large group or team that need testing and hydration plans? (e.g Triathlon Club, Running Club or football team)

Squad testing sessions can be organised for groups of 10-20 at a reduced rate, please get in contact to organise
